For Ilkka Mikkola, captain of Kärpät the gold medal was his League career's 8th. Now one else has accomplished as much, especially when Mikkola has played only ten seasons in the League. He has won the championship with TPS (1999, 2000, 2001), Jokerit (2002) and with Kärpät (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008). In addition he has one bronze metal from 2006. His only year without the medal was 2003, when he placed 4th with Jokerit.
Mikkola's 8th championship took him up the chart passing Aarne Honkavaara, Pentti Isotalo and Reijo Mikkolainen which all have seven wins. Most League medals has Yrjö Hakala, who have won 15 medals; 6 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze.
Goalie Tuomas Tarkki was selected as the best player of the play-offs. He was rewarded already on Saturday after the 5th final game. Tarkki played 12 games in the play-offs winning 10 of them making his percentage 94,3.
Forward Hannes Hyvönen from Kärpät won the total point statistics of the play-offs. This means he now divide the first spot with Kari Jalonen when it comes to one season's point record in play-offs. Jalonen made 7+14=21 in 1980-81 play-offs in 12 games.
Top six players in the play-offs:
1. Hannes Hyvönen, Kärpät 8+13=21
2. Ville Leino, Jokerit 9+8=17
4. Marko Kauppinen, Jokerit 5+12=17
5. Janne Pesonen, Kärpät 7+9=16
6. Tommi Santala, Jokerit 4+12=16
